CellTrypase - Application Fields

CellTrypase is a recombinant, animal origin-free trypsin-like enzyme for gentle and reliable cell dissociation. It supports a wide range of cell culture workflows in research and GMP-compliant biopharmaceutical manufacturing. In workflows involving direct contact with the final drug product, such as the biomanufacturing of Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products (ATMP), stem cell therapies, regenerative medicine, and GMP-compliant cell banking. CellTrypase supports therapeutic consistency by combining high purity, GMP-compliance, and preservation of cellular phenotypes. These attributes help maintain the integrity of therapeutic cells throughout processing and contribute to product quality and ultimately patient safety.

Cell Culture Workflows

Adherent cell cultures require regular passaging to maintain stable growth and predictable performance. Fast and gentle detachment is essential to preserve viability, yield, and normal proliferation.
CellTrypase enables controlled dissociation by gently cleaving peptide bonds at lysine and arginine residues. The detachment is reversible by dilution and unlike trypsin of porcine origin it does not require the use of an inhibitor.
As CellTrypase only requires short contact times with commonly applied surfaces and media the product is ideal for routine cell culture workflows, supporting efficient dissociation and passaging of adherent cell lines such as Vero, HEK 293, CHO-K1, and MDCK. The enzyme preserves cell viability, yield, and proliferation capacity, ensuring consistent results and healthy cultures.

Viral Vector & Vaccine Production

Viral vectors for gene therapy are typically produced in mammalian cells such as HEK 293. Most of the cells used for vector production are anchorage-dependent cells and require attachment to a solid surface such as cell culture dishes, specialized micro-carriers or fiber-based fixed beds. Adherent cell cultures are a well-established and straightforward technology for viral vector manufacturing. To scale production, cells must be detached and transferred to new surfaces - a process often referred to as "scale-out". Ideally, detachment should be fast, reversible, and gentle to avoid harming the cells. CellTrypase facilitates the detachment of cells from various surfaces by gently cleaving the peptide bonds at lysine and arginine residues on the cell surface. A simple dilution of the enzyme is sufficient to inhibit its activity and to promote re-attachment of the cells in the new flask.

Stem Cell Processing & Tissue Engineering

Stem cell-based systems such as induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs), human embryonic stem cells (hESCs), organoids, and engineered tissues are highly sensitive and require maximum care. They must retain function and phenotype during handling and passaging, including pluripotency or differentiation potential.
CellTrypase provides controlled, gentle dissociation that preserves cell integrity and functionality, making it suitable for regenerative medicine and ATMP workflows. It supports single‑cell or small‑aggregate formats, depending on your protocol and works across common surfaces and media. Its high purity and GMP-compliant production help maintain the quality of stem cell-derived therapeutics and contribute to improved patient safety.

Primary Cell Isolation

Primary cells require careful handling to preserve surface markers, native function, and viability. Harsh or prolonged dissociation can damage cells and compromise downstream applications.
CellTrypase provides controlled, gentle dissociation that minimizes mechanical stress and enzymatic overexposure. This helps maintain high viability and functional integrity, supporting reliable isolation, culture, and analysis of primary cells for research or advanced therapy development.

Cell Banking

Master and working cell banks require consistent harvests and strong post‑thaw recovery. Phenotype, functionality, and genotype must remain stable to protect product quality and lot‑to‑lot comparability.
CellTrypase enables efficient and gentle detachment to support uniform cell suspensions and reproducible seeding densities. Short, controlled exposure to the enzyme followed by a dilution for quenching of the activity minimizes process related stress which preserves the cell viability, proliferation capacity, phenotype and functional performance.
